Whoa, Adam. I'm not in any way saying that this announcement has no place
here, nor am I saying that there couldn't possibly be a newer or better
mobile solution than the ones I mentioned. If using Sybase's solution helps
some companies in ways that the others could not, more power to them. Your
opinion of their solution is certainly more informed than mine, and should
be considered by anyone interested. I had too much work to do to attend the
session.

So don't interpret my raised eyebrow as a negative assessment, ok? I was
just playing devil's advocate, and if I'm proven wrong, then I'll have
learned something new, which is good for everyone.

Hey Rick,

Well, I wish that you had attended so you could have seen the solution. I
would not say that Sybase is looking to "gain a share of the market" but
more looking to educate the wider Remedy market about their industry leading
solution. The Sybase mobile platform has been in existence for several
years and is rated by both Gartner and IDC as the mobile middleware market
leader. Over the years, they have done many Remedy implementations, just
without a focused offering in that space.

What really interests me personally is that their platform solution has been
extended to SAP, Lotus Domino, Siebel, Peoplesoft and other
enterprise/legacy systems. They aren't just offering a point solution, but
they are offering a mobile platform that you can use to build a mobile ITSM
solution, not just mobilize your BMC ITSM tool. With respect to that
solution though, they support the mobilization of any ITSM ARS process to
any mobile device (Windows, BlackBerry, Symbian, Java, Palm) and their
development tools are considered first class and are designed for business
users not just hard core programmers. They offer a true enterprise-class
mobile platform designed to support multiple architectures (online, offline
& SOA), multiple devices, multiple applications, and multiple messaging and
cross-platform push capabilities. End-to-end security and market leading
device management options are also available. It isn't as though they are
brand new to the BMC world as they have been BMC partners for several years
(both companies license & resell from each other).

I wouldn't think that brining attention to a great solution that is out
there would be something that the community would frown upon. I know
several people with BMC who have a lot of interest in the Sybase solution,
and I'd think that the community out here on the ARS List would at least
like to get a chance to see more information about the solution.

Well, I already saw the announcement, and my thought was "Why?". With so
many different (and pretty good) mobile solutions out there now, why did
someone feel compelled to create another one, except to gain a share of the
market? Since I only care about the technical aspect, what else, from a
functional capacity, could be brought to the table that isn't already
offerred by Aeroprise, Dexterra, MobileReach, etc., all of which are pretty
good solutions?

Hey Everyone:

I know that I tried to previously forward this to the list as a whole, and I
thought that I had succeeded but I've been told by a few people that they
didn't see it, so I'm resending from another address so if this ends up as a
double post then mea culpa. If you'll forgive the self aggrandizement for a
moment, since I will be presenting today, if you have any interest in
mobilization of Remedy then I think that you'll find this webinar highly
topical.

I personally have been interested in the Sybase iAnywhere technology since
they first had a chance to demo it for me, and my interest was renewed when
I got a chance to stop by their booth at BMC User World this past year.
Sean McLeary of Sybase is also going to be giving a product demonstration as
part of the webinar, so if you want to see a great solution in action I
encourage you to attend.
