It's a visually misleading characteristic, but it's functioning as designed. You can appear to select multiple entries in a table, but you're correct in saying that without a loop guide, it will only process the first one.
Obviously, from a usability standpoint, one shouldn't be allowed to create the illusion of functionality unless it exists, but you can't win 'em all, I guess.
