arslist Digest - 4 Sep 2007 (#2007-389)Maybe you have 2 network cards, a
wireless and a Ethernet maybe? Each of them has its own Mac Address. Open
your command prompt and check the results of ipconfig /all and check how
many network devices you have and what each of their addresses is. I think
these must be starting in a random order, hence the one that starts first
possibly becomes the default Mac Address.

If this is the case, you might want to start your devices in order, the
first device being the one that your AR Server is licensed against. You
might need to mess around with your registry a little to do this. If each of
your device has an identifiable service that starts up automatically on
reboot, what you could do is create a key for the devices that have other
addresses called 'DependOnService' and the value of this key being the
service they are supposed to depend on, followed by a hard carriage return
in the value.

Hope this helps..

Joe

Subject: ARS 7.1 and Vista, Host ID keeps changing?!

  **
  Hello ARSList,

This is my first e-mail to this list but I have been monitoring it awhile
for now. Yesterday I bought a new machine and installed Windows Vista
Ultimate, 64-bit onto it. Today I installed SQL Server 2005 with Service
Pack 2 on it, and now I started installing ARS 7.1. Everything wend fine.

Then I logged in with Demo user, to add licenses to the server. However
the strangest thing happens. Each time my computer reboots, the “Current
Host ID” field changes. It also contains an ID I do not recognize. As in, it
is not one of the MAC addresses of my network card.

This is very annoying because I *just* wend to the support site to request
a trial license, and now this license I can no longer use. I cannot go to
the support site, requesting a license each time I reboot my computer ?!? K

Does anyone have maybe any idea what is going on?

  Thanks,

  _Mark
