I think the answer is very similar to the answers to:

Why is it useful to program in a language that allows you to create
Classes and Sub Classes?

IMO, almost identical OO (Object Oriented) answers apply. The only
difference is that the CMDB is really just a data model and not a full
"Object". Although some might argue that the federation concepts
(features of an Atrium CMDB class) might constitute methods of that
class. So, some might have a more OO'ed view of the Atrium CMDB than
"just a data model".
