How is this for dredging up old topics!! I have gone through the manuals, I have gone through the crappy BMC KB on-line and none of them are giving me any idea of how to get this done.
I have a field - MAC Address, it will be entered by the tech as 0043b34def01 I need Remedy to convert it to 00-43-b3-4d-ef-01 I have used the following: [0-9,A-H,a-h] [0-9,A-H,a-h] - [0-9,A-H,a-h] [0-9,A-H,a-h] - [0-9,A-H,a-h] [0-9,A-H,a-h] - [0-9,A-H,a-h] [0-9,A-H,a-h] - [0-9,A-H,a-h] [0-9,A-H,a-h] - [0-9,A-H,a-h] [0-9,A-H,a-h] [a-z0-9] [a-z0-9] - [a-z0-9] [a-z0-9] - [a-z0-9] [a-z0-9] - [a-z0-9] [a-z0-9] - [a-z0-9] [a-z0-9] - [a-z0-9] [a-z0-9] [a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9] Then I get the following error for any of the patterns: ARERR [306] Value does not fall within the limits specified for the field : (pattern - [a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]-[a-h] [0-9]) : PC Asset Tag It has occurred to me that I may be going about this all wrong. But I just don't know. Did you try [0-9,A-Z,a-z] for each character you want to be alpha or number? I forgot to mention if you are doing pattern matching in a filter (or active link) Run-If do not define the pattern match on the field in the form. You can overwrite the message with a custom messages i.e. AR System Message Catalog, which you may have to enable Server Information/Advanced - Localized Error Messages and set your Localize Server. Pattern match for things like 999-999-9999 is not working great as I expected myself. Like if you want to create a pattern match for phone you could do something like this [0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9], however, all places must be filled with digits or your user will get that funky message. I had similar problem with custom pattern match for field which holds first a-z,0-9 type of characters, dash and 4 digits. I couldn't do it with pattern match because you can only pattern either 0 thru 9 meaning any digits from 0 to 9 but not in combination with [A-z] meaning any chars from upper A to Z and lower a to z chars. Workflow edits was only a choice. I like this approach best... and have implemented it... thank you... I do have one problem.... and this relates to many situations... The Error Message which Remedy displays when the pattern is not met.. is HORRIBLE something like... "PATTERN - [0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]not met in Dept Code. [ARERR 30000]" The good news is the user is stopped from entering bad data.... but really.. I would prefer a message like: "The department code entered is not valid, please use dashes as shown." Often I wish I could make the messages Remedy desplays less provocative.. In the Attributes tab of the field, in the Pattern field, enter [0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9] That will return an error if the pattern is not matched on create/modify. What gives? Not quite sure what you're asking here, Phil.
