Is it best to upgrade to Help Desk 6.x and CMDB 1.x and then try to
upgrade to CMDB 2.x? I tried to run the ITSM 6 upgrade installer on my
test box but it failed. It complained about the archgid utility not
working on ARS 7.1.
 
Is the ITSM upgrade app the way to go if I can get this error corrected?

Brian, CMDB will work with ITSM 6 - in fact, v1.x is installed with it.
So some of the links to customer Assets that used to go directly to
AST:Asset now hit the appropriate CMDB tables.  You have the option to
use CMDB 1.x, which works fine with ITSM 6, or upgrading to the 2.x
version of CMDB, which is far better, but can be a pain to get working
with ITSM 6.  In fact, you need to contact support to get the help
necessary - there's a good bit of manual work to do, and you can be the
judge of whether the gain is worth the pain. 
 
SLM 7.0 should not be used with ITSM 6, even if it can be used, which I
doubt.  You will have enough fish to fry without worrying about SLM 7.x.
Just trust me on that one.
 
I don't think that the DSL is configured to work with ITSM 6.0, but I
would think that you could use the import file in the download as a
template for building the necessary table in which to import the data,
and you could figure out the workflow to read and validate against it.

        I have no desire to take the plunge to the ITSM 7.x apps at this

part followed Doug Muller's advice on making changes to workflow
(disabling the existing workflow and giving the modified workflow a
prefix that I can identify). 

        Anyone done this before? Anyone using CMDB with Help Desk 6.x?
