ARS 7.0.1 on Oracle and Linux with Mid-Tier on Tomcat/Linux

We are using Remedy Alert and have discovered that users who are configured
to use AREA for authentication with Remedy Alert configured to use the web
to view the alert list are getting an "authentication failed [623]" message
from the mid-tier when they try to view the alert list from the alert tool.
The user then has to click in the address bar to get the AR Mid-Tier login
screen, log in, then the alert list is displayed.       

If we hard-code the password for these users then the alert list will open
without a complaint.

Has anyone seen this behavior before and, if so, is there a workaround?
