I wanted to post a solution to this old thread that I found this morning. I was having the same issue when creating a computed group. I found an update to the bug entry on ARSwiki (http://bugs.arswiki.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49) which pointed to having two group forms on the same server.
Sure enough we had a copy of our old group form from 6.3 and once I deleted it twice (the server hung the first time) and did other restart for good measure, my problems with computed groups went away.
