With our Search menus using 7.x client <clear> is a value that is listed. It's not one of the values in our search. The desktop client adds it.

If you have the same label and value field in the configuration form you pull from, simply create an active link that fires whenever you select a menu item on that field. The active link would run if the value of that field was set to <Clear>, and it would change the value to $NULL$.
