I hate to be Mr. Obvious! It seems to me that attempting to disable advanced searches is an act of desperation. If you're so concerned about users running advanced searches and eating up too much system resources, perhaps either your system needs a major upgrade or it's not tuned very well.
We have a single Remedy server here (and a separate Midtier)...Dell 2860 with 4GB RAM. It supports 18,000+ users 24/7 and it runs like a champ.
