Then they have a choice - they can allow you to fix their problem or not
have the problem fixed.  If it will make the new person feel better, ensure
that there's a good DB backup before you log in, and take a .def file backup
right after.  We know you probably won't need them, but the way to counter
his irrationality is by calming him.  If that doesn't work, I wouldn't even
deal with him further - go over his head until you get someone to answer the
first question I posed.
