I've seen this before. I don't know whether it will be the same cause for you, but in my case it turned out to be a problem with a vertical navigation field in the Mid-Tier. I narrowed it down to this by removing fields from the Mid-Tier view until I no longer got the error. I could not see anything wrong with the navigation field in question, but I deleted and recreated it and the problem went away.
