I did the same thing a month or two ago on HPD:HelpDesk by creating an error 
active link to fire on Submit.  Be sure to test for the Staging workflow.  
We've seen work log entries fail to be created because the error required the 
field in the default view and didn't account for the dialog version.

Good Afternoon List,

I've been asked to make a "Work Info" entry required when a Change
Ticket has=20
been moved to a status of Completed.   I thought it might be easiest to=20
make the z1D_Summary required on the Dialog View - Close view.  But it
seem=20
that the Field Change Function doesn't allow for making a field
required,=20
just visable and font changes seem to be the only changes allowed.

I also tried creating a simple error message active link but it is
firing=20
after all the "Completed" workflow function fires.  The error messages=20
comes up but ticket shows Completed even though no entry was made.

Any thoughts would be great.

We run AR applications and System v 7.0.01 patch 006, all on Windows
2003=20
Servers and MS SQL 2005.
