All fair points, Steve. Oh, by the way, technically, OKC is the largest city in
the nation, by land mass :)

I can not argue with your points. OKC is not for everyone. I particularly hate
the urban lifestyle. Crime here is bad in places, but it's typically
non-violent crime, although this year OKC has had around 30 murders already.

Most of the reasons you lamented against OKC are also reasons why I commute 50
miles. If you get away from OKC, you can typically relieve all of the problems
you noted below, except for OKC being small and lacking an urban lifestyle.

Thanks,

I don't mean to rain on everyone's parade, but I can't recommend
Oklahoma City at all. I know everyone has different standards and
opinions, but I think it would only appeal to a certain subset of
people. Here are a few things that I didn't like about it:

There are more churches than bars by a ratio of about 20 to 1. There
are very few people in their 20's or early 30's other than college
students. Despite Oklahomans calling OKC a big city, it's only the 30th
largest in the nation, so if you are used to anything resembling an
urban lifestyle, you are out of luck. There is a lot of poverty and
more crime than I expected. There are a lot of people doing drugs, and
crystal meth is an epidemic (I had coworkers in I.T. on meth.) The food
there is pretty bad, unless you like overly greasy chicken fried steak
and other obesity causing stuff. There are a lot of crazy people (there
are some good people too, obviously, but I don't think they are the
majority.) Most of the people you meet there have a very
Oklahoma-centric view of things, and seem to have a smug attitude about
how Oklahoma is so superior to all the other states, and will give you
detailed explanation of why they are better than wherever it is you come
from.

Granted, a lot of my view is slanted by the bad job I was working at in
Oklahoma City, but I experienced enough of the city that I didn't like
it. I was pretty miserable when I lived there, and I'll be happy if I
never have to go back. Still, your mileage may vary and you might love
it. I just wanted to point out that it's not for everyone.
