Gary, I've just tried Firefox 3 as well, and can report that screens seem to display faster than with my IE7 or Firefox 2.x.
I think they have monkeyed with delaying rendering the screen until all the data has arrived, because I can see some navigation fields redrawing on an in-house app. Drawing the screen on the fly rather than buffering does make it look faster even though the full data might not arrive until the end of the render.
