I don't know if Tomcat itself offers options for load balancing...but I
wouldn't be surprised if it does....what I was discussing was the
possibility of Tomcat doing session sharing between the servers which would
potentially prevent the situation where all users on the server that went
down loosing their session.

So load balancing would have to be done via Tomcat?

I'm currently running 6.3 on IIS with the New Atlanta servlet exec.

I'm going to say that it's possible to do it with minimal interruption, but
I'm not sure about no interruption. If you configure multiple mid-tier
servers behind a load balancer, if one of them goes down then the load
balancer would re-point them....which would force them to log back in
because their session is invalid on the other server....but I did look into
Tomcat clustering that did session sharing, but didn't get far enough down
that road to actually test anything.

Subject: Midtier Clustering

**

Hi everyone:

Is it possible to create a high availability Midtier cluster? That is, a
cluster of Midtier servers that behave as a virtual single server so that if
one server fails the other picks up the load without the end users noticing?

Thanks,

Norm
