Calling an external script within a active link

Hi: I have a java script with returns 3 variables (firstname, lastname, 
emailadrress) when run with one argument (userid). This script is taking 
to a homegrown application. I have read through the java api chapter in 
the integration document. This talks about how to integrate with Remedy 
server using java. Any suggestions how I can include this script within 
a Active link that is run when user enters the userid in a field within 
a form, take the results in add the values to fields within the form? 
Just looking for some pointers I can read up on.
