Extreme slowness in McAfee may be related to a serious bug introduced in a
McAfee update some months ago. Under normal operation even with a Remedy
server the McAfee load "should " not be that noticeable (but is NOT
insignificant). I have had to uninstall McAfee on all machines due to this
problem. McAfee support indicates that an uninstall and reinstall will fix
this but alas this was not the case. You will find a lot of references to
this problem if you Google for it.

As for exceptions, McAfee monitors running processes. I would disable this
at least for all Remedy processes or the entire server.

I would also disable outgoing Email scanning if the Email Engine is running
on a McAfee controlled machine.

I would try my best to dissuade McAfee usage on an ARS server entirely.
Presumable you are behind a firewall. Viruses can be had if you are
handling incoming email attachments or other ARS attachments (from an
unscanned source). I leave it to others to describe the ARS security
features and limitations.

Cheers
Ben

Subject: McAfee Issues

**
Happy Friday,

I have a client that runs McAfee on all client and servers (Except Database
Servers). This is causing extreme slowness. The Server Admins have agreed to
build in exceptions for Remedy but have requested we supply the exceptions
for them.

Would anyone know what exceptions need to be added to McAfee for Remedy

App Server: Windows 2003 Platform
Remedy Version: 7.1 patch 6
Database: Oracle
DB Server platform: Linex

Thank you for any help that can be provided
