Also, from the 7.1.00 Forms and Application Guide (page 369): "Shared fields can pose unexpected issues in page holders in the web client. When using shared data fields, tab order is not always consistent, which can be a problem if your application must support accessibility for users who use tabbing. Sharing trim fields can also produce visibility problems when data fields are on the shared trim fields. The data fields are visible but cannot be accessed. Avoid using shared fields."

Take a look at the 7.5 Form and Application Objects Guide - Page 176. It seems like the system supports it if you created it using the Admin Tool. At this point it looks like they took the functionality out of Developer Studio, but the server supports it. I cannot comment on the future of this feature. I would hate to have to change workflow and forms for a future release that does not support it.
