Our AR servers are running on Windows Server 2003 hosts running under VMWare ESX (not sure which version, though), and we're relatively stable (I don't believe any of the issues we're having are related to VMWare). We haven't had issues like what you're describing. That error number was being encountered by someone else on the list a little while back, though. Try searching the archives. I'm not sure if (s)he ever figured it out, though...
