In the Area Ldap Config form you can set the server name to a list of servers to try in order if one fails. You simply list the servers space separated. There are also timeout values you can set (AREA-LDAP-Connect-Timeout:) to make the switch between them happen faster in the event of a failure.
However, I have seen a few cases where you can connect to the server but not bind. In these cases you are at the mercy of the AD/LDAP sysadmins to resolve the issue.
