I am not sure -- but does a system like splunk address this kind of thing? (taking logs and make them searchable/useful in terms of dates)

splunk just seems like such a good idea -- but I personally have no use for it.

Does anyone know why these log files don't have date and time stamps in the files? How am I supposed to know what date and time and error occurred? Do I have to change something in my settings to allow this?
