1) Is there a best practice for Oracle ARCHIVELOG versus NOARCHIVELOG? BMC wasn't much help on this issue.
2) Do Oracle shops that run with NOARCHIVELOG down their arserver during nightly backups, or bounce it when the backups are done? It turns out the site I'm working at has been in NOARCHIVELOG the whole time I've been there (~10 months) with no scheduled bounce for arserver (7.1 on windows) and I never realized it, because miraculously the server manages to reconnect itself JUST well enough for people to enter tickets the next day without noticing anything. I only started noticing it when I needed to create some new forms (editing existing ones worked fine) and I always got ARERR 55 and couldn't create any until I bounced the service.
