A really long time ago (maybe 7 years or so), I had heard a recommendation that each web server user uses approximately about 4 MB of memory per session.. So this may have increased by maybe 100% since then? I would safely calculate at about 12 MB per user session.
Also maybe (I'm not 100% sure) your calculations should perhaps be based out of the max heap size setting - and not the total physical server memory.
