Officially, it would not be supported. It may well work since the operating
system that a remote database server is running would have a minimal effect on
the interaction between the Oracle DB server and AR System. But you'd be
'unconfirmed' when calling Support.

Note that BMC added a clause in the later compatibility matrices that calls out
this limitation. Specifically: "AR System Server Supported Databases: The
following databases are supported on all operating systems and platforms
supported by BMC as defined in the "AR System Server Supported Hardware
platforms and Operating Systems" section above."

So officially, since Win 2008 isn't supported as an OS on AR Systetm 6.3.00, a
DB running on it also would not be supported. However, it's probably a
relatively low risk decision to run in that 'unconfirmed' status.

By specifying to ARS that the Oracle is on a remote server I don't believe it
matters what platform Oracle is on. All that matters is that the Oracle client
(on the ARS server) can connect to the Oracle database.

Subject: ARS 6.3 Compatibility

Is Server 2008 R2 64 bit supported for my Oracle server?

My net admin team needs to upgrade the server and they want to use
Server 2008. I looked on the 6.3 Compatibility matrix and there is no
mention of 2008/64 bit on it (granted it is an old matrix).

The Oracle database sits on it's own server.

Current configuration:

ARS 6.3 Patch 24
HD 6.0
Windows 2003 4 gig RAM on app server

Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 w/9 libraries
Oracle lives on a remote server
Windows 2003 8 gig RAM on DB server
