As clarification, I wanted to point out (near the end of my updated post)
that you have to have this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently there's a couple more defects that come into play here.

SW00363699
SW00379983

You will need to get replacements files (presumably from BMC) for
libarxmlutil_lx64.so and libarxmlutil.so and place them into
/software/bmc/AtriumCore/cmdb/server/bin/

Please make sure you have also completed the first part of this note
(regarding getting rid of the arskins.def line from the file
cdf_servercomp_inf_en.xml file when you initially start the upgrade, or you
will likely fail, even WITH these two needed libraries.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

in place for the ARSuiteKit to finish installing. The libraries go into the
AtriumCore directory structure, but are requirements (along with the
ARSkins removal from the xml file, below) in order for the ARSuiteKit to
successfully install. None of the workarounds or defects I've mentioned
here are needed for the second (AtriumCore) section of the upgrade. My
apologies in advance if I was confusing.

Thanks
Sam

Hi Everyone

(I hope this is a good place to post this. If it doesn't belong here please
let me know and I will claim new person ignorance and won't do it again. :)

We are running 7.5 patch 04, trying to upgrade to 7.6.03, using Linux. The
db is Oracle 10gR2. Here's a summary of the issues we ran into so far.

First, the ar system installer started failing during the post-install.
>From the install log:

(Nov 04 2010 03:39:53.795 PM
-0500),SEVERE,com.bmc.install.product.arsuitekit.platforms.arsystemservers.arserver.ARServerPostUpgradeInstallationTask,
  LOG EVENT {Description=[[resultType=COMPLETED,exitCode=2]],Detail=[RIK
command (/tmp/Utilities/rik/rik loadapp -x vx1025.uprr.com -t 0 -u Action
Request Installer Account -p <not_displayed> -l /software/bmc/ARSystem -n
ARServer-RIK_PostUpgrade -f
/software/bmc/ARSystem/installforms/en/adf_ServerApps1_en.xml -m nosamp -k
0 -L -c) returned an exit code of 2, which was interpreted as a failure]}

There there was a long error (about 6000 characters in the line so I won't
post it here unless you all want to see it.) Long story short, there's a
known defect that causes this. Here's the workaround given to us by BMC:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking at the ARServer-RIK_PostUpgrade_error.log I can see "ARSkins.def"
was failed on import.

It has been observed that this issue is specific to Linux OS when
performing an upgrade from 7.5 to 7.6.03. So we have created defect for
this specific issue Defect Id is #SW00379943

But we have a workaround for this.

You need to run arserver installation in Pause Mode,

Note: To run ARServer installer with pause option, please run it as.

  ./setup.bin -Dbmc.install.PAUSE_MODE=true

At one stage installer gets paused and it will allow you to modify xml
files.

Once the installer gets paused go to <AR Server Installation
Directory>/ARserver/installforms/en directory and look for
cdf_servercomp_inf_en.xml file and remove <pl action="import" mask=8273"
>ARSkins.def</pl> line from xml file and save the file.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After we did that, the installer again failed, this time with an abend
whenever it tried to start arserver. The stack trace was:

(from arerror.log):

I'm into the cmdb upgrade (atriumcore) as I write this. If anything more
comes to bear, I'll continue on with this post.

Thanks
