Not sure what "6.1" is... perhaps you mean AR System 6.0.01? First off, I'd mention that 6.0.01 is very old and obviously unsupported. It would be a very, very good idea for you to upgrade to a supported version (7.1.00 or later). Upgrading the Mid-Tier should be a relatively painless process that could be done in hours. You could even bring up a new 7.x Mid-Tier in parallel with your 6.0.01 Mid-Tier and then take down the 6.0.01 Mid-Tier once configured... making the transition almost zero downtime for your users.
Secondly, most folks upgrade the Mid-Tier to a later version and leave the server for a planned maintenance/upgrade period. I don't hear very often about folks that upgrade their server, but don't upgrade the Mid-Tier. So it wouldn't be a common scenario. I don't know that much testing will have been done with an older Mid-Tier and a newer server. Thirdly, 6.0.01 is 3 releases before 7.1.00 and support is typically only stated for the current release and 2 back - so when 7.1.00 was released, it would support the 7.1.00, 7.0.01 and 6.3.00 Mid-Tier. This can be seen in the Compatibility Matrix for 7.1.00 found here: http://www.bmc.com/support/reg/remedy-compatibility-tables.html That all being said, the 6.0.01 Mid-Tier might work properly with the AR System 7.1.00 server... but I'd still recommend upgrading to a later version. -David J.
