Best Practice is to only use the Join forms, so no do not do a mapping against Base Element.

Instead of building it a bunch of times I was thinking lean and trying to create it once against base element. I have a Primary Key of Lets say Asset ID and two data mapping fields and that is it. I am not creating records only updating. When I look at the logs it looks as if AIE cannot find the file and it tries to create it. The ARSystem count is 0 when it should be 1. This same mapping runs against the computer system class and works fine. Any ideas, is there a step with Base Element I am missing. I have built workflow against Base Element that modified and created records and had no problems. I can also build a staging form that can handle this but I wanted to have it handled in AIE mapping since I am only updated a field or two and that is it.
