**
Hi All,
I just got back from a whirlwind weekend in DC where the team and I met with the hotel to make some final decisions. I have to tell you, I'm VERY excited. We have some fun surprises cooked up. I can't tell or the team will hurt me LOL

What I can tell you -
  • Fly in to Washington Reagan National if you are flying. It is a short taxi or shuttle ride.
  • The Alexandria Hilton http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/DCAAHHF-Hilton-Alexandria-Mark-Center-Virginia/index.do has a 20 passenger shuttle that can take you to and from the hotel for free. Check the hotel site for shuttle times.
  • Taxi to/from the airport is roughly $20 before tip. I had to take a taxi as I was flying very late and very early.
  • On the subject of getting around (the weekend before or after because why would you leave the conference)- The shuttle also goes to
    • Pentagon City Mall which is HUGE and has all the big name stores plus some fun small ones.
    • Pentagon City Metro stations & King Street Metro Station - you can take the Metro to the tourist spots in DC
    • If Barry is driving the shuttle you can ask him to take you to Crystal City - a cool strip of restaurants. Barry is a character!
  • The hotel is just finishing a year long renovation project. It is beautiful. Each room has the usual accommodations, plus a mini-frig. Oh and a coffee maker which is normal for most hotels but those of you who were in Las Vegas for previous WWRUGs probably noticed the lack of a coffee maker at the Hard Rock.
  • I can recommend the lobster bisque from the Finn & Porter in the hotel.
  • We warned the bar they may have to stay open until the 1AM legal limit. I know how you are!.. and who you are ;)
  • There is an indoor-outdoor pool. Only the indoor part will be open when we are there. It is big enough for a dip but not a lap pool.
  • There is a nice fitness facility if we don't give you enough exercise wondering around the convention center.
  • If you want to smoke in your room, make your reservation and preference ASAP. This is a non-smoking hotel except for a few rooms. There are also rooms with balconies as a second choice. The rest of your day, there are patio areas outside where you can smoke. In other words, this hotel is the opposite of last year's hotel on the subject of smoking.
  • The air conditioning works really well. We will do our best to keep the meeting rooms at a comfortable temperature but I personally am bringing short sleeve shirts and a sweater so I am ready for about anything.
Ok, that completes my travel blog. I hope to see you there to add to my next adventure.
