Another option would be provide button/links on the main screen that open up other forms/dialogs where you can add a lot more fields/workflow and will have full control, instead of customizing OOTB screens. If it is not acceptable then see if you could find some space in one of the page tabs else you could just add a new page tab to the page holder that holds WorkDetails/Relationships/DateSystem and try to put in all your fields in there. That way you do not have to expand the width.
