the position will entail approximately 60-80% short-term/regional travel

BUSINESS ANALYST

Column Technologies is seeking Business Analysts to facilitate requirements 
gathering workshops at customer sites, and to document the results of those 
workshops.  

Objectives:  Business Analysts are responsible for identifying the business 
needs of their clients and stakeholders to help determine solutions to business 
problems. As a translator, he or she elicits, analyzes, validates and documents 
business, organizational and/or operational requirements.

Responsibilities:
•       Perform process evaluation and re-engineering for customers in the IT 
Service Management arena. 
•       Make recommendations on ITIL compliance and strategy
•       Conduct gap analysis between customer processes and BMC ITSM Suite 
capabilities, and map those processes to the tool
•       Articulate and document the strategy, cultural impact, roles and 
responsibilities needed to successfully implement the in-scope ITSM processes
•       Help our customers properly staff, manage and deploy IT Service 
Management projects. 
Eliciting Requirements:
•       Facilitate requirements gathering session using a variety of techniques 
that include interviews, surveys, review of historical data, workshop sessions 
and structured walkthrough of the processes
•       Anticipates, quantifies and resolves problems with requirements
•       Seeks to understand and incorporate client cultural and organizational 
realities in the requirements elicitation process

Creating the Business Requirements Document:
•       Analyzes, classifies and documents requirements
•       Controls changes to the requirements baseline
•       Publishes and distributes the business requirements document
•       Use object-oriented analysis tools to create use case diagrams

Structured Analysis:
•       Identifies and clarifies requirements using conceptual and logical 
process/data modeling techniques (Business process, data flow and workflow)
•       Communicates with clients using data and process models to clarify and 
validate requirements
•       Analyzes and determines problem/opportunity/solution resolution 
(Identification of “as-is” state vs. “to-be” state)

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
•       Effectively build positive relationships (rapport) with project 
stakeholders. 
•       Effectively communicate relevant project information to project 
stakeholders in a clear, concise and understandable manner (both in written and 
verbal format).
•       Deliver engaging, informative, well-organized presentations. 
•       Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion. 
•       Understand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information 
tactfully. 
•       Effectively demonstrate mastery of documentation software (i.e. 
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio; Adobe Acrobat).
•       Effectively master the use of the internal documentation (playbooks, 
slides, and templates), processes and techniques to elicit requirements.
•       Experience in writing proposals and statements of work; functional 
requirements specification documents; and responses to customer inquiries is 
preferred.
•       Ability to adjust the style of communication to meet the needs of the 
audience.
•       Demonstrate proper use of grammar and style in written communications.

Technical Understanding: 
•       Possesses an understanding of Column Technologies product and services 
capabilities.
•       Demonstrate basic understanding of the technology and applications 
presented to the client
•       Understand the logistics involved with specific services engagements 
(installation, integrations, etc.). 
•       Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential 
application on client engagements. 
•       Knowledge of ITIL and other IT Best Practices frameworks (ideally, ITIL 
Foundations-certified).
•       Experience with IT systems and technology platforms.
•       Experience with Incident, Problem, Change, Configuration and Asset 
Management.
•       Ability to evaluate and assess the impact of one solution and product 
on the rest of the organization

Leadership:
•       Maintain respect of team members through example and attention to 
details exercised on your projects.
•       Challenge our customers to think beyond the current project or module, 
and to strategically position the Business Service Management message in a 
manner that leads to extended work, future engagements and product sakes
•       Understand the Column Project Management procedures. The following 
represent key Column Project management procedures: 
o       SharePoint (Project Documentation): Updating of SharePoint with project 
documents
o       PRINCE2 (Project Management Process): Participate in the PRINCE2 
Project Management Methods  
o       Project Time/Expenses (Financial Tracking): Timely and accurate 
completion of timesheets and expenses, etc...
•       Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive 
suggestions for change. 
•       Provide input on requirements analysis templates, playbooks and 
processes.
Teamwork:
•       Consistently acknowledge and appreciate each team member's 
contributions. 
•       Developing trust among team members.
•       Effectively utilize each team member to his/her fullest potential. 
•       Foster a positive working environment by involving other team members 
in decision-making activities.
•       Help the customer stakeholders and sponsors achieve success, so that 
they are motivated to engage Column for future projects
Candidates must be willing and able to:
•       Work remotely (usually from home) or at Client Sites much or most of 
the time; coordinating with managers and colleagues who are dispersed over a 
wide geographic area.
•       Travel approximately 60 - 80% of the time (short-term/regional travel).
•       Take, at company expense, training classes in Remedy software 
implementation and administration, and the PRINCE2 project management 
methodology; and - if not already certified - take classes for and pass the 
ITIL Foundations examination.
