It's possible that your site administrators may have locked down your ability
to change the Trusted Sites. Or you may just need to highlight the item you
want to remove in order for the Remove button to become enabled. That's the
way it works in IE8, at any rate.

Does IE7 give your users an option to place sites into the Local Intranet?

I would look for it in IE by bringing up their IE properties window and looking
on the Security tab, if there is one. We're on IE8/IE9, and for us, we then
have the user click on Local Intranet, click the Sites button, then click
Advanced.

Everything we tell IE about our local network (which affects how our users
experience our Remedy apps that use the mid-tier) is on this screen and not in
the Trusted Sites.

What we do next after having the user click Advanced is:
1. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, have the user type: *.domain.com
(where domain.com is the name of your site, e.g. google.com) and click Add.
2. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, we have the user type: an IP
address range (for example, 157.54.100-200.*), as appropriate to define the IP
addresses on your network and click Add.
3. OK out.
4. Reboot the computer. This seems to be needed in order for the browser to
pick up this change.

This resolves issues with DNS resolution and a lot of otherwise odd behaviors
our users experience. I've not seen it resolve issues like you describe, but
it might be worth trying.

Good luck!
