We use a combination of HP OpenView for server up/down, log and process monitoring. On the app server we monitor the arerror.log as well as the stdout and stderr log files for the email engine. We monitor the MidTier log files. We also monitor Oracle log files. In addition we use SiteScope to verify that the MidTier interface is responding.
HP OpenView is our system monitoring software for our company so it was not much effort to add monitoring for the AR System specific portions.
