Hi Kelvin,
Excellent synopsis of the situation. Here is the update (411, guess this should have been a twitter but I need more than 140 characters): Although the being acquired by Oracle wasn't the concern in terms of Oracle, more an overall concern at the time of BMC being acquired by some other company. I avoid Oracle OpenWorld for the Bay Area (week of Sept 22nd this year) because that is 10,000 people taking up flights and hotels. As it turns out the week that was reserved at the Fairmont cannot be used now because Fusion has been scheduled that week, And BMC and many others need to be there. That was the Oct. 21st week that some may have heard of. So likely it will become early September: But please, don't book your flights yet, just budget for the conference, it will happen! I am waiting for final details from BMC, promised by Feb 28th, in terms of when works best for them. No, the conference is not run by BMC per se, but let's face it, we can't do Evening with Engineering and many other parts without their co-operation. They are our Cornerstone Sponsor and the reason we have a Conference! BMC Remedy ITSM after all. Once I have the all clear for the weeks that seem best and availability of the BMC folks, announcements will be forthcoming. I am in conversations with venues around alternate dates right now. At the WWRUG12 conference I also announced that the web site, registration and the call for papers will all happen on April 1, 2013; and so far I see no reason not to meet that deadline. Unfortunately it may be a mere 5-6 months before the actual conference, so I implore people to start thinking about their papers now and be ready to submit them quickly. Great that you are all looking forward to it, so are we! On behalf of the Board .. Daniel Chairman of the WWRUG Board p.s. and yes Houston and San Jose were close to tied, but everyone loved the Fairmont From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Wallace, Kelvin Sent: February 25, 2013 5:09 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: WWRUG13? ** Tommy, We're having it at your place this year! No. last I heard (which has been a few months), it would either be San Jose or Houston (most votes were for The Fairmont in San Jose). Supposedly, they had lined up hotels in both cities - but with no contract. There was a concern that BMC may be acquired by some other entity (like Oracle) and Oracle OpenWorld might interfere - it is in San Francisco in late September and the organizers were hoping for late October for wwrug13. They did get the www.wwrug13.com domain - but there is nothing there yet. I did not notice an announcement on the list yet.
