I just finished dealing with this issue upgrading AI 8.0 to 8.1 (and is why I am not in bed at almost 2 am). The detailed steps I took are below. There might be a few extra steps than needed. As I look at them now I ask myself if some of them helped at all but I was getting really tired of being told by the installer that directory was in use and it was time for some mystic voodoo.
1. Verified AI install path (D:\Program Files (x86)\BMC Software\AtriumIntegrator) in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\ AIntInstalledConfiguration.xml. Used Process Explorer to find handles that referred to 'AtriumIntegrator' and 'ngie' 2. Change the ngieplugin.log path to some place else in D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins\shared\log4j_pluginsvr.xml • <!-- param name="File" value="D:/Program Files/BMC Software/ AtriumCore/Logs/ngieplugin.log" / --> • <param name="File" value="D:/Admin/Logs/ngieplugin.log" /> 3. Commented out all java CMDB processes • I noticed that even though I commented out line 11 that pertains to kettle, pentaho, etc. the ngieplugin.log file still had an open handle in Process Explorer • Line 11: #"D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xmx1024m "-Djava.ext. dirs=D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\ext;D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\lib;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\JDBC;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\webservices;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\spring;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\commons;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\web;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\pentaho;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\mondrian;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver\data-integration\libext\salesforce" "- Dorg.mortbay.util.URI.charset=UTF-8" "-DKETTLE_HOME=D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\diserver" "-DKETTLE_REPOSITORY=" "-DKETTLE_USER=" "- DKETTLE_PASSWORD=" "-DKETTLE_PLUGIN_PACKAGES=" "-DKETTLE_LOG_SIZE_LIMIT=" "- DKETTLE_MAX_LOG_SIZE_IN_LINES=5000" org.pentaho.di.www.Carte remedyserver20000 -i "D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem" • Line 22: #"D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java" -Xmx512m -classpath"D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins\ne;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\arpluginsvr81_build001.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\arapi81_build001.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\arutil81_build001.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\log4j-1.2.14.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\cmdbapi81.jar;" com.bmc.arsys. pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x remedyserver -i "D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem" • Line 23: #"D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java" -Xmx512m -classpath"D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins\shared;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\arpluginsvr81_build001.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\arapi81_build001.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\arutil81_build001.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\log4j-1.2.14.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\cmdbapi81.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins\websvcjava81_build001.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins\federation\lib\axis.2.1.4_all.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\plugins\federation\lib\axis2-kernel-1.4.jar;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\cmdb\sdk\bin\cmdbbol81.jar" com.bmc.arsys. pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x remedyserver -i "D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem" 4. Closed all Windows Explorer windows I had open to the D:\Program Files (x86)\BMC Software\AtriumIntegrator • I was just about to give up when I searched for ‘AtriumIntegrator’ in Process Explorer and noticed explorer.exe had a few entries for that path. (Note: I didn't have this directory open until I had to start researching the issue) This was after another person had worked on it all afternoon and did the usual stuff, reboot server, stumble upon this thread, etc. Hopefully this will help the next poor soul that encounters this situation (or us when we do the remaining 3 servers). On a side note I have upgrade AI 8.0 to 8.1 without any issue in the past. The AI install is usually a slam dunk.
