I can confirm this. I've used v8.1 Dev Studio against 7.6 servers without
issue. I would use the latest version/SP of Dev. Studio you can get, unless
there are any known issues with that against your server version.

Supposedly it is not as dangerous to use unmatched versions of Developer Studio
as it was to use non-matching versions of the Admin tool. Just using a
different patch level will not cause any issues.

I know I have seen it on the list of people using the v8 Developer Studio
against a 7.6 system

Subject: Version compatibilty

Hi All,

This might be a candidate for the RUG dumbest question award but I will ask
anyway.

Just want to double check the safety of using different SP versions. In our
development environment we have upgraded the AR Server and mid-tier from 7.6.04
SP3 to SP5. However it would be a month or so before upgrade production to
SP5. I have development work to do and production work to do before the
upgrade and only one workstation for use. I have been told it is safe to use
the SP5 Developer Studio on the SP3 environment, but want to be sure.

Thanks
Mark
