Hey Tranquil,
If you are trying to deploy you need to make sure that you have a servers
tag in your settings.xml for credentials and that the id of the server on
the servers tag must match the one in the distribution management.
When reading its a similar process, you need to have a servers tag in your
settings.xml and that the id matches the id in the one in the repository tag
from which you want to read from.
Example servers tag:
<servers>
<server>
<id>Commtouch</id>
<username>"username with permissions"</username>
<password>"the password"</password>
</server>
</servers>
