I did some more investigation into this issue and it appears to not be a
problem with Artifactory and LDAP. The issue is around a long-running Firefox
(I haven't tried any other browsers). If I restart my browser, everything works
fine.

accounts are tied to LDAP, so the act of logging in requires a query to the
LDAP server and the response times are fairly consistent.
