With a servlet container you just need to replace the war file, and with the
standalone jetty to overwrite a couple of additional files. After that the
upgrade is fully automated.
You cannot directly point to a storage originally used by 2.2.1 from a fresh
2.3.3 install, because the auto-upgrade steps will not be applied, which is
what happened in your case, and is the reason for the exception you are
seeing.
