As for your questions, You are right, you may wish to change the items in the list of your remote repositories over time (we do not auto-chnage it during upgrades, except for extreme cases). You can also use bintray.com JCenter repo: http://jcenter.bintray.com/ instead of all these repositories. The JCenter repo aggregates and contains most of the artifacts in these repositories under a single URL! Port 80 is just the common case, as the HTTP default.
