I have found the configuration responsible for the behaviour I described
earlier. It's due to the 'Allow Anonymous Access' option.

I have this ticked because there are some repositories for which I need to
support anonymous access. However there are also some repositories for which
I do not want anonymous access but do want to support dynamic version
numbers. It seems that these conflicting requirements could be resolved by
making 'Allow Anonymous Access' to be a per-repository option. Is that
possible? Or planned any time soon?

Thanks,
Neil
