Hi there!
I've got a strange problem here on my computer:
SiS 630 integrated with SiS 7018 sound...
Using the alsa trident driver...
Sound works fine when
- no artsd is running
- I play mp3's using mpg123
then everything's wonderful...
But:
- while artsd runs
- or when using xmms with the oss output plugin
this happens:
1) Sometimes there's a short noise, just like a static crackle.
This appears every 10 secs to every 2 min. Mostly it's more
like 20 secs between crackling. While running artsd the
crackling noise is there, even if no sound is played. Playing
around with the artsd settings (sampling rate, buffer size, etc)
doesn't help
2) Sometimes artsd and xmms repeat a small section of
a mp3. Thats like with the old record stuff, if there was a little
scratch. It plays, then suddenly it jumps back a second or
so in the song and then just plays on...
I'm no expert and I don't know what the difference between
mpg123's output and xmms/artsd is... But I think since
Windoze and mpg123 get a clean output, there is a solution
to this problem and it's not hardware related.
Your page says, that one should use the artsd coming with
kde if working with kde... Do I have to rebuild the whole
kdelibs if I want to recompile artsd? If not I could do some
debuggin' if you tell me what to do...
btw. arts is _really_ kewl stuff, all I need is
more synthesized MIDI instruments for Brahms ;-)
happy hacking,
Manuel
