Chronologically, the RTE should be attributed to Lommel and Khvolson (late 
1880s).
The attachment summarizes the "astrophysical" perspective (the author obviously
was not aware of Lommel's and Khvolson's work).

The publications in the 1930s on the Turing machines and some related were the 
first about modern computers.

When was radiative transfer first developed as a concept- Chandrasekhar or 
before?

I am interested in the result.
