Music of Invention series from the Black Box continues tonight with performers in the studio - Followed by Redevelopment Update The experimental duo mechanique(s), featuring Hans Tammen, endangered guitar, and Dafna Naphtali, voice. Both performers use computers and electronics, sometimes remixing and altering each other's sounds as well as their own, to create richly textured electroacoustic improvisations.
Then onto Asbury Park Redevelopment issues - Waterfront and Westside -
We check in with Appraiser Dan Sciannameo to see if he has the documents he needs to evaluate the waterfront triangle property's market value. The city requested Dan's help on Dec. 15 (see archive or click here for Triangle Video), but as of yesterday the documents were not in Dan's hands. Also, Dan's response letter to councilmember John Loffredo's rationalization for the $400,000 value for the Triangle, published in The Coaster and Asbury Park Press, has not run in the Press. We'll ask him why.
On the West Side, a major land sale has gone down without the documents to show how much landowner Phil Konvitz paid the city for the land in the first place. Docs we and the city have repeatedly requested, since before Thanksgiving, from the law firm of McManimon & Scotland, Newark, have yet to be sent. WHY?
A special council meeting Saturday morning will seal the deal on that land with plans for a private developer to build and private landlords to own 70 rental units there, despite the need to reduce rentals in favor of owner-occupied properties that pay taxes. Boarded up houses go unused - and have for several years - on the west side off Springwood. We want to know why Asbury Partners' money isn't going to rehab and sell those houses to local residents who would pay taxes and participate in their government. Studio guests John Hamilton and Dorothy Argyos discuss the realities of affordable housing in Asbury Park. Do you have facts or comments to add? Please call in and join the discussion. 732-775-0821 and 732-775-6203 (Please forward this email to interested parties.)
And, Maire Martello and the World News returns tonight!
