1. The way I understand it (and someone correct me if I'm wrong)is that Abbott funding was to make the bottom 5% school districts to upgrade their curriculum & infrastructure to be equivalent to the top 5% of school districts. Not the average, but equal to the Holmdels, Middletowns, and Rumson/Fair Havens.
It's the equivalent of giving minimum wage workers a multi-million dollar home, and then expecting them to be able to make the heating, electric, & maintainance with their minimum wage income. Meanwhile, the other 90% of us are wondering what we did wrong in our less than million dollar home. I have a feeling the whole school funding issue will be reformed. As the population ages, the number of people who don't have school age children is dwarfing the number who do. People who buy cars in this state don't look at their sales tax figure & say "I can't believe I spent $1,200 for some professor at Brookdale County College". It's probably better that people DON'T know how much it costs to make our state's students the second highest scoring on the SATs and the highest percentage that attend college in the nation. If the school funding issue is resolved this way, this council is going to look like visionary geniuses, since they traded away a worthless abatement in return for a $30 million restoration of the Casino. You'll also have 3,100 homeowners complaining they are paying an unfairly high percentage of municipal tax & demand the abatement be removed. --- In [email protected], "oakdorf" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > "so that their per-pupil expenditures became equivalent to the > average per-pupil expenditures of the wealthy suburban districts." > > 1.
