I'm a very big College Football fan, (Upstream Red Team to anyone
else who is) and TiVo every mention of College Football.

On Monday, there was a show on the Travel Channel called "College
Football Towns" where they profiled Athens, GA. Did you know, both
REM & the B52s were discovered in the same Athens bar??? Neither did
I, but the next time my Knights face the Georgia Bulldogs, I'll make
sure I get a picture of me in front of the bar where both REM & the
B52s were discovered. Actually, because I am a "fountain of useless
knowledge", whenever I'm in Atlanta I'll remember there is a bar
where both REM & the B52s were discovered.

As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet the next time any of us are
in Atlanta, (which is 70 miles away, according to the show) if we
ask 10 30-something locals on the streets where REM
was "discovered", at least 1 of them would be able to give us the
best way to get to that unnamed bar in Athens.

Picture yourself on the streets of NYC. Not 5th Ave, but around 20th
and First. If you asked 10 40-something locals "Excuse me, can you
tell me where Bruce Springsteen plays?" How many would tell you to
go to the Stone Pony? How about 40-something locals on Market Street
in Philly?

Would you concede that there ARE some European tourists wandering
around NYC & Philly looking to find Bruce shrines?

And that, ladies & gentlemen, is why the Pony should stay exactly
where it is, and go on serving $4 bottles, $20 Tshirts, $9 thongs,
and charge a $5 fee to use the MAC machine.
