What you say MIGHT be true! Seems, something is missing, here! It
seems, just my opinion, that the board and the superintendent, were
in sync, at one time, otherwise his contract would NOT have been
renewed prior to the end of his 1st contract with THIS board. Now,
it seems Mr. Lewis and the current board are NOT in agreement. It
also seems and it's been hinted through innuendo of, (shredding) and
non-communication, that a power-play was in progress; the super vs.
the board. I have NO idea what happened, but just from reading the
press reports, this is what is happening. The board can't speak
publicly, nor will Lewis, except through his attorney, but as you've
stated, the KIDS, lose! As usual so-called, "adults", fighting
amongst each other, while NOTHING, is accomplished and the kids be
damned, as usual. Fortunately, for me, I never had to encounter
this problem, as I attended parochial schools, wore uniforms and was
not under pressure to compete, fashion-wise. My job was to attend
and produce, adequate grades. Unfortunately, in my
family, "adequate", wasn't good enough. I had parents, who put the
pressure ON, constantly. My older sister had to be an "A" student,
to SET the example and I was pressured to do likewise, under pain of
punishment or suffer mentally, in other ways. My parents were from
the so-called, "greatest" generation, mis-named by Brokaw and others
and I came out of the 60's, civil rights, era. The "turned on"
and "freaked out", generation! No generation, is the greatest, in
my estimation. When I married and had kids, I raised mine, very
liberal. In doing so, they never got into trouble, used drugs or
got into alcohol. Not perfect, just good, decent, kids. I have
been a mentor, coach and good ear, for many children in this area,
black, white and hispanic. Anyone who knows me from my Pop Warner
coaching days, over in Neptune, knows me as a pretty decent, "egg"!
The kids from Asbury Park, Long Branch, Matawan, Lakewood and
beyond, know me through the athletic prowess of my 2 sons, in high
school and college. Not a perfect mom, just a good egg, as I've
said. I wish the kids of Asbury Park, all the "luck" in the world!
I've never met a "bad" kid; all they need is a little time, from a
caring adult. I've met Mr. D' and I admire and respect him, a great
deal, so I'm staying OUT of the fray, on this one. Only THEY know,
whats afoot here. I don't think it's a black and white issue,
either! Just my 2 cents!
