ASBURY PARK — Police responded to three separate shootings in the city Thursday
night
that resulted in injuries to two men and the death of a dog.

Shortly after 8 p.m., multiple shots were fired in the area of 1601 Bangs Ave.,
First
Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw Jr. said. An 18-year-old
man,
Shamar Johnson, was shot in the leg and arm outside the home.

Johnson was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, where he
was
treated and released, said Warshaw.

About an hour and 20 minutes later, two males wielding a shotgun and handgun
forced
their way into an Avenue A home, said Warshaw. The two demanded money from
three
people, all related, in the home. One of the gunmen shot and killed a dog in
the house,
Warshaw said.

The two men fled after stealing personal property from the residents, whom
Warshaw
declined to identify. One of the residents was taken to Jersey Shore University
Medical
Center with a head injury. That person's condition could not be determined
Friday evening.

Shortly after 11 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot inside his Summerfield Avenue
home.

Warshaw said the man, whom he declined to identify, was shot once and remained
in the
intensive care unit at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

No arrests have been made in the three shootings and the robbery, and the cases
remain
under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office and the Asbury Park Police
Department.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin said that, throughout his tenure,
police
presence has been increased in Asbury Park and the surrounding areas to respond
to
organized gang activity and narcotics distribution.

As a result of the spate of shootings, police presence in Asbury Park and
surrounding
areas will be increased this weekend, he said.

Valentin also reiterated the need for crime victims and witnesses to work with
law
enforcement.

"In the past year, there have been several instances where victims of serious
crimes have
refused to cooperate with police," he said. "It's unfortunate because it makes
our jobs that
much more difficult."

"Hopefully, they'll come to understand that we need their assistance. We can't
reduce
crime in that city without their help."
