The legal term lis pendens means a notice of legal action. I am
looking at lis pendens of foreclosure. I looked Asbury Park, NJ up
in a database provided only to foreclosure prevention counselors.
The number of current foreclosure lis pendens is 80. That does not
mean that every single one will end up in a foreclosure. It means
that a notice of intent to foreclose has been served by the servicer
of their mortgage. That means that 80 households in the city of
Asbury Park are currently 90+ days behind on their mortgage
payments.
I'm not going to be baited into debating with you the minutia. We
are in a foreclosure crisis in the US. Those of us who live in the
greater NY metropolitan area are actually quite lucky. A search of
Ann Arbor Michigan shows 427 foreclosure lis pendens. Conley, GA a
similarly sized city to AP has 145. However consider too that Nevada
has been the hardest hit state in the nation. Boulder City, NV (pop
12,567) has 78. A number very close to Asbury Park's.
This is very serious stuff and no one is available full-time to help
the AP residents facing foreclosure. It kills me to have to work in
NYC when I keep seeing the AP stats go up.
Tommy, I doubt you're pro-foreclosure. God! I hope no one is pro-
foreclosure. I am only reporting what I see. If it were 70 rather
than 80 I guess it would be better for those 10 families (except
they're facing some other kind of legal action).
