JANUARY 21ST - 4AM
Snow began throughout the area between 2am and 3am. Temps have fallen
back into the 20s throughout the area with low to mid 20s across the northern
half of NJ and mid to upper 20s southern and coastal NJ.
It now appears that areas north of I-195 are going to stay as all frozen
precipitation with a change to sleet possible in Monmouth and Mercer in the
mid to late morning...all snow north of this area.
Any change to all rain should be confined to central Ocean and central
Burlington on south.
Updated accumulation forecast is as follows:
For the Neptune area and nearby coastal communities of southern Monmouth
and northern Ocean Counties - 3 to 4 inches of snow ending as a period of
sleet
Northern Monmouth/northern Mercer and points to the north including NYC -
3 to 5 inches
Interior southern NJ - 2 to 3 inches with a longer period of sleet and
ending briefly as rain.
Southern coastal sections of southern Ocean and southward - 1 to 2 inches
ending as sleet and rain.
Precipitation ends around or just before Noon, but skies will remain
mostly cloudy.
JANUARY 20TH
The first winter storm of the season is on its way for late tonight and
Saturday morning. A storm system moving through the Ohio Valley and off of
the Delaware coast will provide moisture overrunning high pressure to our
north. The result will be a significant snow event for most of northern NJ,
a transition zone of snow and prolonged sleet in central NJ and snow to
sleet to rain over southern NJ and coastal sections.
Snow will begin between midnight and 3am across the area.
Precipitation will end around Noon, although a period of freezing drizzle
could develop towards Saturday evening.
For the Neptune area and nearly coastal communities of Monmouth and
northern Ocean Counties and interior south NJ - 1 to 2 inches of snow,
followed
by a change to sleet after sunrise and then ending as rain late Saturday
morning.
Interior Monmouth/Mercer/Middlesex south and east of Route 1 - 2 to 3
inches of snow, followed by sleet. Perhaps ending as a bit of light rain,
but
conditions could be quite icy in this region.
Northern NJ north and west of Route 1 including NYC - 3 to 6 inches with
perhaps some sleet as the precipitation ends.
Coastal sections from southern Ocean County southward will see a brief
period of snow followed by rain
Temps moderate to near 40 on Sunday afternoon and into the 50s with rain
on Monday.
